School

It is common for children with ADHD to have difficulties in meeting all expectations placed on them in pre-school and especially in primary school.

Children with ADHD need an individually adapted teaching and learning situation where they can learn at their own pace and they need a lot of individual support. Much depends on the individual teacher's attitude and understanding, but also on the resources that the pre-school/primary school is prepared to make available.

As a parent, you with your knowledge of the child is an important and necessary resource for the pre-school/primary school. Offer your knowledge and dare to make demands. Never accept that your child is subjected to bullying or other exclusion.

Request an action plan where you as a parent participate in the planning of the child's days at the pre-school/primary school. Make sure that regular meetings are planned and that the program is evaluated and changed if needed.

Agree on homework and, if necessary, make a schedule. Clarify what the pre-school/school is responsible for and what you are responsible for as a parent.

For the daily contact between home and pre-school/primary school, you can obtain a simple reporting system, such as a contact book.
